With only one practice to relay reports from today, I thought it would be worth taking a gander of what's going on with Jim Zorn. The former Hawk QB and Hawks QB coach is already facing his fair share of challenges as a rookie coach.
If you haven't heard, and thank you M., for posting the link, USC rookie tight end was nowhere to be found at the start of his third practice. There are reports that he over slept. Let me, a big Fred Davis supporter, say I was wrong and Tim Ruskell was right about Davis. No wonder I haven't been invited into a war room yet, right? As for Zorn, this will be a big test for him. How he handles one of the first players he has been instrumental in adding to the team will make a big impression on a mostly veteran squad. To continue...
It is not just the rookies testing his limits either. Former Shaun Springs had his on the field antics questioned by Zorn after attempting a lateral after an interception. My guess is that with an offensive background, he would just assume that the defense fall on the ball after a turnover, but that is my speculation. We can only wonder the scowl Springs would have received from Holmgren if attempting that under his watch.
I think that most Seahawk fans would like to see Jim Zorn succeed. Well, other than on Nov. 23rd. It will be interesting to check in with his progress as a head coach as the season goes on. So far he is juggling the head coach and the quarterbacks, but it is little things like what happened with Davis and Springs that take away from the time he has to teach. Hopefully, things get easier for him from here on out.
