Seahawks trade up - #91

by: Chris Sullivan

The Hawks just traded up with the Giants...

With the 91st pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Seahawks select Deon Butler, WR from Penn State.

Butler is FAST, a burner with a 4.38 40-yard dash, he put up good numbers at Penn State. He is short, only 5'10", but had 179 career catches at Penn state for 2,771 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career. Mayock liked the pick, but thinks it might be a bit of a stretch. With this speed though, expect Butler to compete for a role on special teams even if he doesn't see much play on the offense this first year.

Deon Butler is also broke Bobby Engram's record for catches at Penn State. That has to have raised some eyebrows in the Seahawks draft room, eh? Both Kiper and Jaws loved the pick, even if Mayock was a bit lukewarm on the timing.

Butler is a walk-on player who has been a scrapper and definitely fits the Ruskell mold. Still. Not crazy about this one... The Hawks gave up their 5th, 7th and next year's third round pick. We are running out of ammunition.
