Andre Smith Blows It (This Is Not a Repeat)

By Chris Sullivan

Andre Smith had his pro-day today at the University of Alabama and did nothing to help himself. Not a single one of his workouts would have placed him even in the top ten at the Combine. As NFL.com reports,

Smith measured in at 6-foot-4 ¼, 325 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.28 and 5.33 seconds. He had a 25-inch vertical, a 7-foot, 10-inch broad jump, a 7.88-second three-cone drill and 19 bench press reps at 225 pounds.
While these numbers aren't way below what might have been expected of him going into the Combine, he did not raise his game at all. 19 bench presses?

This should, I would hope, finally end once and for all the rumors that Smith is a top 10 pick. Smith has shown no work ethic and no effort; he disqualified himself from his team's bowl game via illegal contact with an agent or scout (I don't recall which). He is clearly an excellent football player, but he has not proven he has what it takes to work out at an NFL level, let alone play at one. He is currently rated the #4 OT by both www.NFLdraftscout.com and www.draftcountdown.com (friend of the blog!).

There is no doubt that he is one of the best in the NCAA the past couple of years, but he's dropping the ball big time and costing himself a few million guaranteed with every screw up. What do you guys think? Where will Smith get drafted? ~END~
