Samie "The Seahawk" Parker signs...

by: Chris Sullivan

Mike Sando is reporting that with the placement of Rob Sims on the IR (which will, apparently, be official today), the Seahawks have freed up the roster spot and signed Samie Parker. This is a guy a lot of us were hoping to hear about yesterday, rather than McMullen. Glad to hear they're both on the squad.

Here is Samie Parker's stat sheet. More as things develop...

STEFFES' TAKE:
Sando says that Parker will be the speed receiver, probably the split end, and McMullen will be a bigger, red-zone type target. All things considered these moves aren't inspiring anybody to pick us as Superbowl favorites, but they are smart moves for the situation. These guys are not going to be overwhelmed by the speed of the game or the intensity of a road game. They are experienced, albiet mediocre, receivers. These are smart moves, all things considered. These moves are all about winning now, not future talent, so Ruskell is living up to his word and trying to make this a special season for coach. The question is how long it takes them to get a fair grasp of the system. In the meantime, expect offensive tempo to struggle.

Now there is a hole at guard, hopefully the team will make a move there as well, finally ending the two kicker situation. It could be they bring up Pat Murray, although he looked pretty bad in preseason. They may go looking at a veteran, but with this happening now, Jacksonville and Miami have already done some damage to the market. The fan choice is likely LeCharles Bentley, however the logic is that if he were healthy, he would have signed somewhere by now. We will here more about this at 12 when Holmgren has his press conference. By then we should also know if Kent and Forsett cleared waivers. Lets be optimistic, I think we will be pleasantly surprised considering the hardships this team has suffered.

PARKER'S TAKE: First of all, I might be related to this guy. (Hey, you never know.) Second, all things considered, I think the coaching staff and team management is doing the best they can with what they're given. Granted, I still think they should've pushed harder for Koren, but after looking at the Chris Henry situation, they might've gotten a bit put off. I can't say I blame them for that, as Ruskell values good character and that's why we aren't stuck with wankers like Stevens for longer than we had to be, but I think it was worth more of a push than they gave it. On the plus side, Parker's experience looks solid, as do his numbers on paper. McMullen may be more of the red zone target, but the question is can he establish a good rapport with Hasselbeck in time for Sunday? Probably not, but again - the team is doing the best they can, given the dire circumstances surrounding this receiver conundrum. (I was also happy to hear Logan Payne is getting a shot at the starting split end job. I hope to GOD he eats Nate Clements' lunch on Sunday afternoon.) END
