Giants Sign Canty to Six-Year, $42M Deal

In a move that makes their defense look downright frightening, the New York Giants have continued bulking up with the signing of former Cowboys' DE Chris Canty.

The six-year $42 million deal includes $17.25 million guaranteed. Canty was supposed to meet with Green Bay at some point, and had already scheduled a visit to Seattle for tomorrow. It seems, however, that the Giants had a very good plan for adding a versatile guy like Canty, as he joins a talented group that doesn't seem to have lost any steam since the retirement of Michael Strahan.

Canty also seems to have come at too high a cost for the Seahawks anyway. There's no doubt that he would've been a quality addition to the roster, but defensive end isn't a huge need here. Patrick Kerney should come back healthy (knock on wood), and Lawrence Jackson and Daryl Tapp have a promising future ahead of them. Adding a bruiser like Canty would've been a better move if the Seahawks were lacking any size at DE or DT, but Brandon Mebane and Craig Terrill aren't exactly small.
